so good.

last wednesday, i was leading this song for my youth group. i suddenly had the urge to repeat that phrase ("He rose and conquered the grave, He conquered the grave") over and over again. then, by the Lord's faithful moving, a new song broke out (i don't even remember all of it): he conquered sin, conquered death, he conquered doubt, fear, etc...

as i listened to the words coming out of my mouth, which were so obviously not mine, my heart was so revived and convicted all at the same time. i'm still rejoicing in the fact that "it is finished."

such a good reminder--thank you!

good questions friend! Silas does speak with an accent- that I would describe as Afrikaans. He also throws in some sotho, zulu, and afrikaans words in his everyday speech- which totally blows my mind. I can only begin to imagine how spending these early years of life on foreign soil will impact my children- but from what I've seen so far... I'm thankful for it!

I hear you, Becca. It's not that there's no temptation or inclination to act and live as though things aren't finished- but for me it's about what I do in those moments. I can continue to dwell... or I can literally speak out of my mouth... this (fill in the blank) is finished, I will not ---, because He conquered the grave my ---- pales in comparison. When I shift my mind, thoughts, and heart that direction... it changes me. It changes how I look at my circumstances and my struggles.

it is finished.

which blows the door wide open for a whole lot of other things to begin.

I went to elementary school with kids from all over the world. It was a fantastic experience and really shaped who I am today. I didn't realize it at the time but I definitely do now. Do either of your kids speak with a different accent than you and Dave? Do you wonder if they will identify themselves as mostly South African as opposed to American? So interesting. I look forward to hearing about it.

It is these declarative statements you've written at the bottom that really trip me up.
Because I think, " I will promise that XYZ will not hold me back any longer, this is finished, I'm done worrying about . . ."
But then I counter my own promise with my own worrying (irony, I know. I practically bleed it.) "what if tomorrow I still worry? What if tomorrow anxiety takes hold of me? What if? Then my promises are meaningless!"

This... This is what I gnaw on.
This bone is growing old, though.

...it's a school "rule" that there's no shoes worn during warm weather. I know this is Africa, but some things we still do the American way ;)

Alli, your comment struck a deep chord in my heart. I've been chewing on it!
