May 12 A Proud Mommy Moment

Spring has been totally different for us this year compared to last year. A year ago, Silas was just learning to walk… and now, he’s Mr. Adventure. Give him a chance to run, and he’s off. Give him a play structure… and he’ll leave no part unconquered. Saturday morning, after strolling through Farmer’s Market- we went to an area in town known as the ped-mall, which is an outdoor area with lots of restaurants and shops, along with our public library and a huge play structure. Silas hadn’t been to this particular “park” since last year- when the only thing he could really do was try and climb the stairs. This year, however, it’s a totally different story. There are tons of ladders and things to climb… and I watched Silas walk up to the tallest chain ladder thing he could find- that I thought was clearly for a bigger kid (at the far end, next to the “dizzy slide”). He looked at me with a huge grin and said, “I can do it”. He started his way up and then asked for some help… and then continued climbing and saying out loud “I can do it.”
It was just a special moment for me… to know that when Silas sees an obstacle or a challenge… his internal response is I can do it- and at the same time, he wasn’t afraid to ask for some help when the going got tough (or pretty high!)- and it didn’t seem like giving up even crossed his mind. It was great to see him accomplish what he set out to do. I’m proud of my little guy- even though sometimes his “adventures” make me hold my mommy breath and hope for the best!
