Having two hours to myself in the middle of every afternoon might sound like a dream for most people. So… I just wanted to provide a little reality check… here we go:
12:00- Silas goes for his nap
12:10- clean up the morning kitchen mess from breakfast, snack, and lunch
12:30- Start 1st load of laundry
12:35- Start putting together something for dinner, that I can throw in the oven later
1:00- Change up laundry…put new stuff in the wash, wet stuff goes in the dryer for 30 min.
1-1:30- My time…sitting in the dingy basement, wash running…to check email, blogs, etc
1:35- put dry clothes away, move the wet clothes to the dryer
1:45- miscellaneous…usually compiling a shopping list, writing out bills, etc.
2:00- Silas wakes up
And, there you have it… the “me time” reality check
In all honesty though- this week has been good. With Dave going back to classes and working at the museum…I’ve been challenged to really accept my domestic responsibilities as my job (at least for this season of life!). Today, I didn’t want to touch the kitchen, I didn’t want to do laundry…and then I found myself saying, Lord…help me to serve you by serving my family…let this bring joy to heart… and suddenly my date with Palmolive and Tide didn’t seem so pointless after all!!

You’re my hero.
I don’t even have a child, and I feel reluctant to do chores every single day. I don’t like doing them, but I love a clean house…my only motivation besides the fact that my hubby loves a clean house even more than I do.
Funny thing: I used to clean my church every Saturday, bathrooms and all. I knew how to do it “as if unto the Lord”, but I haven’t quite figured it out for my home…
Thanks for bringing that to the table.

I love the breakdown of the daily “me” time! How true. I end up running myself ragged with household chores/finances/cooking/dogwashing….I usually end up getting two key-strokes into my first email when my littlest angel is ready to hit it running again! Shouldn’t we have time to do our 90-minute high-intensity workouts, and a stellar spiritual life due to hours of personal devotions every day? I mean, we’re home ALL day, right?

I like this. How true. And that was funny: my date with Palmolive and Tide. You made me smile there.

for real! somedays i wont do that stuff and sweetly tell daniel, “you get to punch out for lunch…when does that happen for me?”. its hard to find a balance between pacing yourself for the long days and working hard and staying sane!
good job, mom!

okay, on that note, I am leaving blog world, the phone, e-mails, sewing and the needs of those outside our home to do some house cleaning!
Thank you for the reminder that our job as stay at home wives is a job, that needs to be done daily. Just as our husbands go to work daily!
Hopefully as your little guys gets bigger, you will be able to teach him in the ways of the house and do some of the laundry and stuff while he is “helping”. I think parents do an injustice to children by not teaching them about daily adult life.
