Feb 19 Expectant

We’re about to transition from expecting to parenting. Knowing this drastic life change is approaching has made me so reminiscent and yet so expectant. I’m hesitant to let go of what has become my comforting familiarity- the security of the constants in my life. At the same time, I’m ready for more, for a new journey, for a new role, for an expanded family. It’s almost like I’ve taken this deep breath in over the last 8 months and I’m holding it now, in a long pause, waiting to exhale as the changes begin.

In the pause I find myself wondering how I’ll look back on my almost 9 years of marriage before parenting began. Those quiet mornings, the laid back nights spent snuggling on the floor watching a movie, the spontaneous decisions to go camping or hit the road (or air) to places like Memphis- to soak up some local culture. My mind has flipped through so many of our memories in scrapbook fashion, turning the pages of events past that are decorated so beautifully in my mind. A contributing factor to my reminiscing is no doubt the countless times I’ve heard “enjoy it now, it’s all going to change” or “your life will never be the same.” I’m confident that the well-oiled parents that have shared these words of wisdom with me speak from experience and truth, but I have to look through the “Oh No!” sounding sentiments to the meaning behind it all… expanding our family means adding to it, not taking anything away.

What the expansion holds is yet to be determined or experienced. It is our present journey and the path we’re on only becomes clear with each passing step. That’s where you come in- you’re invited to share the journey with us, read our thoughts, share yours with us, and of course keep passing on words of wisdom. With this passing day and one forward step taken in the journey… welcome aboard!

Amy,
Hey! Its Yeller from so long ago. Congratulations on the baby. We just had our first six months ago so I can relate to your “expectant ponderings”. You can read mine on http://deehodgson.blogspot.com/ Good to see you (sort of)

Maymes,
Did you turn off the comment for the last post? Let me just say I can TOTALLY relate to your “a – b-ing” dilema. To quote you, “I can make plans but I have to be willing and able to abandon them at any point” For me I feel like that is at MOST points :) . But it is so fun. Which magazine do you like the best? Let me know how it all goes for you and if you find any tips! Love, Yeller
PS – like the Dharma / Greg comment

I also couldn’t comment on the new post…

I totally understand what you’re feeling (I expect I’ll feel very much the same!), but Amy, I know this much is true – you and Dave are going to be incredible parents!
